Just… “BREATHE”.

In our lives, amidst the whirlwind of responsibilities, challenges, and sometimes overwhelming sadness, it’s easy to feel lost and disconnected. Yet, in these moments, turning towards the eternal comfort, love, and grace of Christ can offer us solace and strength. To help guide us back to God’s embrace and find peace in His presence, let us explore seven steps, encapsulated in the acronym “BREATHE,” that can unite our hearts with God during times of sadness.

**B – Be Still**
Begin by being still in the presence of the Lord. In the quietness, lay down your burdens at His feet. Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” In stillness, we can hear God’s whisper, feel His presence, and start to recognize the magnitude of His love for us. This step is about letting go of the chaos that surrounds us and focusing on the One who is in control of everything.

**R – Reflect on His Word**
Open your heart to the Scriptures. God’s Word is alive and active, capable of speaking into our deepest needs and sorrows. As Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Allow the Scriptures to be a source of comfort and guidance, reflecting on His promises and truths to find hope and encouragement.

**E – Express Your Heart**
Prayer is our direct line to God, a way to express our deepest fears, concerns, and sorrows. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” In prayer, be honest and open with God, knowing He listens to every word.

**A – Accept His Grace**
Grace is unmerited favor. It’s God’s gift to us, even when we feel we don’t deserve it. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” In moments of sadness, accept that His grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Accepting His grace means acknowledging our need for Him and receiving His love and forgiveness freely.

**T – Trust in His Plan**
Trusting in God’s plan means acknowledging that He knows what is best for us, even when we can’t see it. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Surrender your plans, dreams, and sorrows to Him, trusting that He holds the future and works all things together for good (Romans 8:28).

**H – Hold onto Hope**
Hope in Christ is an anchor for our souls, steadfast and sure (Hebrews 6:19). It is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). In times of sadness, hold onto the hope that is found in Jesus. His resurrection is proof of His victory over death, sin, and sorrow, promising us eternal joy and peace.

**E – Engage with Community**
We are not meant to walk through life alone. Galatians 6:2 teaches us to “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Engaging with a community of believers provides support, understanding, and love. It’s within the body of Christ that we can find encouragement, accountability, and reminders of God’s truth and promises.

By following these steps and incorporating them into our daily lives, we can navigate through times of sadness with grace and strength. Remember, in every breath we take, God is with us, offering His unending love and comfort. Just… breathe, and let His peace fill your heart and mind.
